About Tadorne
A maker of marine instruments: the name, the atelier, what is published.
The name
Tadorne is the French name of the common shelduck, Tadorna tadorna — a large, unmistakable duck of Europe’s Atlantic coasts, at home in the air, on the water and on land. A fitting namesake for instruments that live between the wind, the sea and the deck.
The palette is taken straight from its plumage: crème body, near-black bottle-green head, a chestnut band across the chest, a vermilion bill. Nothing was invented.
The atelier
Tadorne instruments are designed in France and will be made there, in small numbered series.
- Named materials. Every material will be stated by its grade; nothing pretends to be what it is not.
- Calibrated piece by piece. Each instrument will go on a reference bench; its certificate will carry its own results, not a typical value, and will be signed.
- Looked after for life. Installation, recalibration, repair and firmware will remain the atelier’s responsibility.
What Tadorne publishes
What lets an owner, a captain or a yard install, integrate, repair and trust an instrument: interfaces and protocols, base firmware, design documents and, instrument by instrument, schematics and mechanics. Each release states its licence.
Everything published here is signed with a single GPG key; the verify page explains how to check a signature, a certificate or a git tag.
